Annual Temple Israel Leadville Weekend
Annual Temple Israel Leadville Weekend
About the Weekend
The typical weekend schedule includes a Shabbat service at Temple Israel on Saturday morning followed by an oneg. The afternoon can be spent enjoying Leadville’s various attractions, including the annual BBQ and Brew Festival on Harrison Avenue (which is Friday and Saturday if you want to come a day early). On Sunday morning, the group convenes at the cemetery for a light breakfast before working in the cemetery. Lunch is served after a short memorial service.

2019: 23rd Annual
Temple Israel Leadville Weekend

Saturday - Sunday, June 22-23, 2019
History of the Event
After the acquisition of the Hebrew Cemetery by the Temple Israel Foundation in 1993, the primary objective was to restore the cemetery after nearly seven decades of unintentional neglect. The first several years were dedicated to clearing massive overgrowth, reestablishing a perimeter fence and arch, identifying graves and replacing missing markers. These goals were accomplished with considerable support, both volunteer and financial, from the Denver chapter of B’nai B’rith. Since the initial years of the restoration, Temple Israel has hosted annual “cleanup” weekends held at the end of June doing light cleanup work after each winter. Now well into the 21st century, we continue with a full weekend of activities-both on Saturday and on Sunday.
