J. Goldwater
According to a notice published in the November 4, 1887 edition of the American Israelite, “J. Goldwater” a resident of Leadville, married Miss Sophia Moss in Omaha, Nebraska on October 12th that year. [1] No resident with the name Goldwater was found in Leadville City directories or Census records between 1879 and 1890.
Samuel Goldwater
One mention of “Mr. and Mrs. Goldwater”, one mention of “Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Goldwater” and one mention of “Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Goldwater” occur during 1888 in Leadville newspapers. [2] These notices were all in association with Jewish families or organizations in Leadville, but the precise identity of “S. W.”, “Samuel” and his wife were not established by this researcher, and like “J.”, they did not appear in Colorado Census records or the Leadville city directory. There is a lack of evidence for the identity of “J. Goldwater” or if “S. W.” and “J.” were the same person or related.
