Emmanuel “Manny” Jandorf
Born: New York, 1859
Died:
Twenty-year-old Emmanuel “Manny” Jandorf arrived in Leadville on March 18, 1879, and took immediate residence at the International Hotel [1] located at 142 East Chestnut Street. [2] Manny found work as a clerk with the clothing firm of I. A. Kamak & Co. Manny remained there until sometime in 1880 when the storefront closed its doors and he, along with Isaac Kamak, [3] went to work for Fred Butler [4] and Henry Frankle [5] at their Palace of Fashion [6] clothing store. Both would reside at the Palace of Fashion while in their employ. [7] Later in the year Manny was in the employ of Dan Golding [8] at his Diamond Palace [9] where he also resided at 112 Harrison Avenue. [10] The firm moved to 324 Harrison Avenue in 1883 and employees were housed at 118 East 8th street at that time. [11]
Little else is known of Jandorf and his time in Leadville; he does not appear in any social notices between 1879 and 1883. During 1883, he was noted to have attended two social events within the community: The Hebrew Ladies Ball at Turner Hall on January 20th, [12] and one week later at the Apollo Club concert where it was said that he remained for the reception that followed and danced until a “late hour”. [13]
The last mention of Manny Jandorf in Leadville was his city directory listing in 1884 when he worked as a clerk for an undisclosed firm and resided in the Quincy Block at 401 Harrison Avenue. [14] It is presumed that Manny left Leadville sometime during this year and no records can be found that explain his whereabouts after this.
