Nathan Cern was born in Russia during 1844[1]  and had arrived in Leadville by 1880.[2]   Cern was a clerk and lived in a boarding house which included Fred Butler and Henry Frankle, both Leadville merchants.[3]   It is possible Cern worked as a clerk at Butler’s and Frankle’s store, the Palace of Fashion.  Nathan Cern did not stay in Leadville long, and by 1881 he had disappeared from the Leadville city directories.[4]
